Château Vannières Bandol 2004

Red Wine

AOC Bandol

90% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache

Reviews / Ratings:

  •  Neal Martin, Wine Advocate Issue # 171 (June 2007):
"A deep garnet colour.  A very polished nose with cassis and blackberry: very opulent and velvety smooth with immense purity.  The palate is full-bodied, very foucsed with great purity, very modern in style and quite feminine in style.  Sensuous and silky, this is Burgundy meets Bandol with filigree tannins on the glycerine-rich finish.  Superb, but definitely a long-term proposition."

  • Neal Martin, eRobertParker - The Forgotten Jewel: Bandol 2004-2006:
"There is undoubtedly a misconception that Bandol is the bastion of tannic, alcoholic, mouth-puckering wines, partly because AC laws stipulate a minimum 50% blend of mourvèdre and 18 months in cask.  In some cases that is true, but the styles are far more diverse depending upon terroir, vineyard practices, amount of de-stemming, and the type of oak used during elevage.  Just taste Château Pradeaux's famously traditional, rustic wines against Château Vannières with more polished, almost Bordeaux-like interpretation of what Bandol can be."

"I must also mention a spellbinding 2004 from Eric Boisseaux at Domaine de Vannières and, given the vibrancy and longevity of his 1083 and 1985 that he served during my subsequent visit, the 2004 will be a long-term proposition, one that might give Bordeaux a run for their money."
